COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITY OPTIONS

As a guest of Rangitikei Farmstay, you are able to see and do some complementary activities. Depending on your interest and time we would love to share some of the gems of our property with you.
  • Soak in our unique outdoor bathtub, under the stars
  • Enjoy a self-guided farm/bushwalk, up to the picnic table where you can enjoy mountain to sea views.
  • Watch a stunning sunset or sunrise from the picnic table
  • Pick yourself some spray free herbs for your meals
  • Walk /run or bike (BYO bike or hire our E-bikes) the 4km lime track at the end of our road
  • Light the outside fire (small brazier) to sit around and toast some of your own yummy treats

Ebikes

Our area is renowned for its excellent cycling and scenery. We are excited to offer four new Ebikes. One small, two medium, and one large E-bike plus one child/baby seat and one trailer attachment. With Ebikes, now everyone can enjoy this beauty without too much effort at all! Be sure to pack your camera and drink bottle.

OPTION ONE: Tutaenui Reservoir 12 km Loop: Head off from The Cottage and take a 4km E-bike ride up our beautiful tree-laden Makuhou Road. Enter the beautiful Tutaenui Reservoir and enjoy the new all-weather 4km track around the lower dam. This scenery is stunning, with thousands of native plantings, established bush, and views of the water and local wildlife. Stop at one of the gorgeous picnic areas for a bite to eat before heading back to The Cottage. Suitable for ages 12 years and up.

OPTION TWO: Galpin’s/Taurimu/ Turakina Valley Loop 35km loop: After a longer loop with breathtaking scenery? This loop is remarkable and the E-Bike makes it achievable for all fitness levels. You will see lots of beautiful farmland and travel over both tar seal and metal roads. Suitable for adults only with a high level of fitness

Price: $65 per E-bike & $25 for the child seat or trailer attachements

Animal & Mini Farm Tour

The relaxed walking tour will be led by Kylie, who will introduce you to our range of friendly animals, guide you through the original farm homestead (now a farm museum and Bunkhouse) and share with you what it means to be a fourth-generation farmer. Hand feed the ponies and colored sheep, collect the eggs from the chickens, meet our dogs and learn some fun facts about farming along the way. Be sure to bring your camera for some great photos with the animals and the beautiful scenery. Kids are welcome to play on our playground after the tour has finished.

Price: $30 per adult, $25 per child (under 12 years)

Food Foraging & Garden tour

Our family has been growing food since 1901. Over the past 15 years, we have created huge gardens which now include large vegetable and herb gardens, an orchard, a huge strawberry patch, blueberries, and a greenhouse. We love growing spray-free food and take great care and pride in doing so. We would love to share this passion with you by taking a tour of the gardens and filling your basket with goodies to enjoy back at your accommodation.

Price: $30 per adult, $25 per child (under 12 years)

Pony Experience

Horses and ponies are in our blood and we would love to share our knowledge, scenery, and gorgeous ponies with you. Our two miniature ponies “Dude” and “Beau” are very quiet and have fans from all over the world. Depending on your interest /age/stage/size, you will experience a special adventure either riding the ponies or leading the ponies on foot. You will be guided along with way with expert help and be sure to see lots of gorgeous scenery.  Feed the ponies animal lollies, brush them, and have your photo taken with these little cuties.  A popular choice of activity.

Mini Mudder

Have you heard of The Mudder? Each September hundreds of people take part in this filthy fun event organised and hosted on our farm. You can now do the Mini Mudder any month of the year! If you and your mates/ family or work colleagues are up for a fun challenge, then this activity is for you! The Mini Mudder has been popular with schools, businesses, and friends – all after something fun and a bit different. The course involves 3km of the beautiful countryside to tackle at your own pace, a team tyre to take around with you, and of course some mud. Most importantly The Mini Mudder is about working together as a team and having fun.

Price: $60 per adult, $30 per student (available 12 months of the year for year 7’s and up).
